My Fifth Amendment Right
Yesterday, I told the sunset about you. When I looked, the sky was a darker blue, with a little purple in it; and already there was a star, shining pale and cold over the place where the sun had set. I told the sunset about you, My Little lost soul, have you ever wondered what it would feel like to talk with her? She told me a great many tales... But those are tales of another day.
Do you remember when we swam in the ocean, promised each other happiness till forever? This forever is not eternity any more. It's now an hour or two, a day or five, some months here, three years there, but you get it right? Like a child lit with giddy joy they promise, speaking, longing, and their whole lot of nothing turns to a whole lot of something... Yes, I know how you're feeling, someone's sloppy seconds, a forgetten choice...I know. Do you have a heart? I doubt it. Anyway you seem yellow at heart, no more than a chicken, remember, this world is not my own.
My little lost soul, never allow yourself to be used. Trust, but never be naive;never lose your voice. What? (Sarcastically) you can dance with your tongue? I'm amazed! When you weave those sweet nothings how does it feel? To know that you hold the power to an event, you control it. How it'll play out... Yes please don't remind me. I know I'm teetering on the edge of this abyss. Finally, (sighs indignantly) are my words showing you how asinine I truly are? Do you resent me?
Never? I knew you could be trusted. However, I shall not incriminate myself. No, not today, not ever! I plead my Fifth Amendment Right! You're a learned friend aren't you? These things are trivial, and ignorance would be a travesty of justice.I made a discovery last week. It is that no matter how hard you try,not everyone can put up with your crap. You're just not everyone's cup of tea. And that's okay. (Sniffs the air) There's that smell again. We better be gone. There is the scent of gunpowder, wafting, moving, shouting in the air like the breath of a curse. It's them. They're coming...
We have gone through this plenty of times; my little lost soul and I. We know the drill. The rubrics are in our blood. I may be so bold as to say even in our genetic make up. Who knows? The scent always follows us, new town, it comes, new City, it comes. It knows us. And we know IT. It's the smell of misfortune.
Misfortune can mean so much to so many people. For us, we have to start over, each and every time. Why? You wonder. Some stories are too painful to narrate. And sometimes the place you're used is not the place you deserve. But who are we? Just mere mortals. Tonight and only tonight; under the moon's and stars' incandescence, I take over your job sexton. The Darkness is covering my vision. It will soon make me defunct. I tried defiance but failed. This world is not my own.
I can see your hands are flimsy. Too fragile to assist. But tonight we shall bury. All things under the sky are fleeting, our iniquities and thoughts notwithstanding. What rumblings we have here! But I know you, My Little lost soul, you understand me. You would never judge me, would you? My skull is not thin nor will it crumble! There's much more we have to unpack!
As will always be a pleasure,
Asari Sango.
